COMMENTS FOR YONA OF THE DAWN
Whilst the similarities between the two are largely superficial, the short gap between their airing dates and period piece shoujo anime (complete with princes and sword fights) revolving around red-headed heroines not being terribly common still makes this recommendation obvious. Even without mentioning the cutting of hair.
What is most striking about the two is the very similar yet contrasting approaches of their adaptations. Akatsuki has a vibrant Korean period piece design, complete with an 'Ancient Asia' classical-style soundtrack. The world-building is also strong. Akagami has something of a medieval Europe design with a 'fairy-tale' bright colour palette and a 'magical' classical-style soundtrack. Both series absorb the viewer into the atmosphere created by the combination of period piece design and music.
The plots do differ considerably, though: Akatsuki is built around a princess being betrayed and is revenge-driven as a man/dragon-harem gathers to protect her. Akagami, meanwhile, is a more relaxing 'red-headed herbalist girl x prince' series, with some action but that not being the main focus.
Darkness & Light, since always these two elements have never been the same thing but one was "completing" the other: that's what i think about Akatsuki no Yona & Akagami no ShirayukiHime. Let me explain better: Yona could be seen as a "darker" version of ShirayukiHime and viceversa; ShirayukiHime could be seen as a "lighter" version of Yona.
Let's start from the main fact here that the stories are definitely different from one another: in AnY we see a princess who's been betrayed and her reign has been overthrown therefor she's temporarily on the run in order to gather her strenght and companions and come back to take her revenge and to bring back some order to her homecountry; on the other side in AnSH we've been introduced to a honest and bright girl who's been studying hard in order to become a proper herbalist (or healer if you prefer) and along her life, during the leave from her country, she encounters a prince who will bring her in a whole "brand new world" to her and so the story begins.. See? The stories have definitely nothing to do with eachother, but still i think these two series keep having some common grounds:
- having mentioned above a tip of the plots, despite the clearly different stories we could still say that the beginning for Yona and Shirayuki starts in the very same way, meaning with them escaping from their own country, for different reasons tho.
- if we want to go ahead already and speak by appearence, which is the very first thing that strikes out and come to mind, yes, both heroines have red hair, which is an element of a certain importance throughout the story, and ironically enough both get to cut their hair for a reason or another
- both have a royal scenery and royal characters among the main ones, and all that's brought with them; although AnY's kingdom's style reminds more of an ancient chinese-type while AnSH's kingdom recalls more the european type-style.
- being both series tagged as "Shojo" we can largely expect -or anyway some- pretty cool romance scenes and great love stories (or heartbreaks?)
- both girls, despite being phisically somewhat weak, are very strong-willed and determined to do whatever it takes in order to protect their loved ones and to do the right thing
- all of the characters in both titles are very likeable, with interesting personalities and well developed backgrounds
- both stories can get serious, however Yona is on a different level when it comes to that and can get "darker" as i slightly mentioned before, with serious situations and die-or-live decisions; as well, both series can also be "lighter" with comical gags or anyway funny scenes, on this instead AnSH can show more than AnY. That's why i first spoke about "Darkness and light", that's what i was refering to.
Being titled Shirayuki Hime (translated as Snow White) the story starts as a totally revisited version of the well known fairy tale, at least at first, so i think that's why AnSH can be a more cheerful than AnY, because it has a more "Fairy Tale"-like vibe.
- both series have a splendid art syle and bright colors, also let's not forget both of the amazing casts that give life to our characters, absolutly won't let you disappointed.
Ok, that's it. I hope i made my point clear and i hope you will enjoy them because i personally did! Quite a lot!
What else is left to say? If you liked one of them, despite keeping in mind that the stories differs not that little, i truly think that you might easily like the another as well!
Happy watching~

COMMENTS FOR THE WORLD IS STILL BEAUTIFUL
Soredemo Sekai and Akagami no Shirayuki-hime are both set in a medieval-like fantasy world. They both are about a girl that starts to work/live with the prince of a kingdom at the castle. Soredemo Sekai's heroine is a bit stronger and the hero - the prince - is younger than her. Also there is a little bit magic involved (her song influencing the rain) while Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (as far as I can remember) was without magic.
If you liked one of these shows I'd recommend the other one because both are interesting because of politics that are involved and the romance seems more authentic/realistic to me than in the very long "school shoujo" you usually got where there are always misunderstandings to keep the story going in order to go through all the different holidays, school festivals, valentines day and so on. Both of these anime dont' have such "forced" romance because there is still a lot of other stuff to deal with.
This also makes them a bit different from Akatsuki no Yona - which also is recommended often because of the red-haired heroine. From my opinion I can say: I liked Akatsuki no Yona less because it was more travelling around and less overall politics at the court which I thought to be more interesting in Akakamig no Shirayuki-hime and in Soredemo Sekai.

COMMENTS FOR
Akagami and Saiunkoku share many similar aspects from the characters they have to the messages they both convey.
Both centre around a main female protagonist that becomes acquainted with a member of royalty (Prince Zen-Akagami, King Ryukki- Saiunkoku) that impacts their lives drastically. Shirayuki(Akagami) and Shurei(Saiunkoku) are both intelligent, independent, kind, strong women who are driven to achieving their dream careers.
Both series have numerous characters that's are incredibly easy to love; even the antagonists. They also are similar in the romance department in the fact that, while a strong element in both, it is by no means the focal point of the story.
They contain many similar themes as well due to them both having a royal aspect; kidnapping, concubines, treason, as well as sword fights fairly often.
Both are extremely riveting and beautiful to watch. If you like one I am certain you would like the other!

COMMENTS FOR ROMEO X JULIET
Both anime's are based off already existing products and have been improved from the original stories.
Snow White with the red hair takes place in the same sort of time period as Romeo X Juliet and has a commoner falling in love with a prince/noble.
At first the main heroine being Shirayuki/Juliet is in hiding and in both cases get found by the main character which progresses their romances from their.
Both series have side characters that support the main characters through their struggles to keep their relationship together, in which both animes share a similar theme where the main characters relationships are thought badly upon.

COMMENTS FOR THE ANCIENT MAGUS' BRIDE
Both have similarly relaxing atmospheres and a red-haired heroine that is whisked away into a new life. While Shirayuki is centered around court life, Mahoutsukai has more fantasy elements to it. The romance element is there in both, but Mahoutsukai's romance is not as intense as Shirayuki. If you enjoy a gentle story, fantasy or other-worldly, and beautiful and soft animation, then you will enjoy both of these shows.

COMMENTS FOR THE HEROIC LEGEND OF ARSLAN
Arslan Senki is basically Akagami no Shirayuki-hime but you take out Shirayuki and the romance.
Both animes main protagonist experiences events that strengthen their resolve for their royalty and both Zen and Arslan have loyal companions that they adventure with.
The only difference being that Arslan Senki looks at the war side of that time and Shirayuki-hime focuses on the political and romance side with much less actions scenes and more relaxing setting.

The story of both series center around female leads with strong character and unwavering determination to accomplish their goals. Most of the people in the show including their potential love interests, who continuously help them out reach their goals, are drawn to their character and charisma. The character design of Skip Beat might put you off but please consider it. Both are among the good shoujos out there.

COMMENTS FOR KIMI NI TODOKE: FROM ME TO YOU
These two animes have a very sweet romance. That is what really ties them together, along with that the heroines are quite different then most, which makes the story really fun to watch. But the romance is what really makes you continue watching.

COMMENTS FOR TALES OF THE ABYSS
Both series take place in the royal/kingdoms times, and the character cast that are full of quirks. Both also revolve around a bright red-headed protaginist (Luke fon Fabre and Shirayuki), that have to leave their hometown by force. Both protagininsts were also kidnapped at some point in the series, adding plot to the series. The art animation styles are viusally similar, and are very pleasing to watch. The only difference is that Tales of the Abyss has a more advertuous and fantasy theme, and Snow White has more of a shoujo and romantic feel to it. Both animes are both really great, and fun watches.
