COMMENTS FOR YURI!!! ON ICE
Slice of life romantic comedies with many gay characters sprinkled in... Sounds perfect if you ask me and if this is your cup of tea, then you will definitely enjoy Given. Tentatively, I say that Given has a more mature plot in the sense that it's harder to predict the twists it takes and has characters that have much more depth than those of Yuri!!! on Ice. Still, I love both of these anime and neither one was disappointing in the least.

COMMENTS FOR BANANA FISH
Despite the difference in genre, the wholesome romance/friendship dynamic between a stern, unapproachable character and a more quiet, innocent character is extremely similar. Both anime also feature characters with dark pasts and deal with difficult subjects. If one of these shows leaves you wanting more of the pure romance between two male characters with a backstory of tragic events, I highly recommend the other seeing as it is essentially the focus point of both series’.

COMMENTS FOR KIDS ON THE SLOPE
Both are about two high school boys who love music. While Sakamichi is not categorized as Shounen Ai, the two main boys relationship can easily be interpreted as a romantic one with how close they become and how clearly they care for one another.

COMMENTS FOR YOUR LIE IN APRIL
Its very similar in terms of how both animes take their characters on a smiliar journey of dealing with life through music and romance. And both have beautiful music and extremely emotional messages along with everything else. As a BL it has a far more realistic portrayal of relationships as well.

COMMENTS FOR SCUM'S WISH
They are both about young people dealing with difficult emotions. The tone in both series are very similiar. They’re both well-paced and gradually building up characters and relationships, uncovering their deeper truths for both themselves and the audience. They’re also made by the same studio, and they both have great music. Both are very thoughful and feel true to life. I think if you like one, you’d like the other.

COMMENTS FOR GRAVITATION
Both are series about uh, band guys falling in love with each other. Incidentally, in both most characters have complex networks of relationships and at least some sort of back story, that may or may not be tragic.

COMMENTS FOR VIOLET EVERGARDEN
I think all fans of Violet Evergarden will enjoy Given. The themes of love, longing, and moving on are apparent in both shows. They manage to communicate the themes of love coming in many different forms through unique means. Two main characters in both of these shows are strikingly similar, and the openings and endings are also deeply moving and tell a story in their own right. If you want another short, yet everlasting story, please consider giving Given a chance.

COMMENTS FOR CAROLE & TUESDAY
Like Given, Carole & Tuesday has a lot of focus on the characters and music. Each show has characters who want to grow their music skills and grow as people as well. Not to mention both have great music.
COMMENTS FOR HAIKYU!!
All of the characters in given will remind you of the characters in Haikyuu!! From the leads being a orange-haired softie trying to get better and a dark-haired prodigy aiding in that process. given also has the main group of characters working towards a singular goal, just replace volleyball with music. given, while it is BL, may fill the void that Haikyuu!! has when it comes to relationships.

COMMENTS FOR FOREST OF PIANO
Both series deal with music, and a character's urge to better their abilities in order to honour someone important to them. Both main characters go from knowing nothing about their instruments to being ble to play them well across the series. The young male characters are easy for audience members to find themselves reflected in.

COMMENTS FOR KONO OTO TOMARE!: SOUNDS OF LIFE
Both shows use music to express thoughts/feelings that couldn't be expressed through regular words. Both cases also have (some) characters who deal with tragic pasts, and how it affects their music
COMMENTS FOR NO. 6
Given and No.6 share a general feeling about a romantic relationship that grows between two quite different people.
COMMENTS FOR NANA
I would recommend Nana to anyone who enjoyed Given because they are both music anime and they both include 2 characters with a complex wholesome relationship. The same feelings of the joy of friendship, the complications of life and overall relaxing tone is reflected in both series. In Nana the 2 main characters have a platonic relationship unlike given, however the bond the 2 characters in nana share made me fell the same as a romantic one. Also Nana has superrrr cool outfits and great music too! lots of punk and vivienne

COMMENTS FOR BECK: MONGOLIAN CHOP SQUAD
They have similar storylines in how a newbie guitar player becomes friends with an older band, whom discover his hidden talent is singing. While given is more romance driven, there are still themes of discovering life through and around music, new friendships and the dedication needed to be in a band.

COMMENTS FOR OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB
It is a boy love anime but it has a good romantic atmosphere between two of the main characters, if you enjoyed the romance in Ouran High this will be a great anime to expand on. This one really made me swoon and took me through all the emotions in a good way, but it also left me satisfied (unlike Ouran).
COMMENTS FOR K-ON!
Given is basically K-On, but a Shounen Ai. Both animes are Slice Of Life/Band animes, and they're both very good. Both of the main characters are also similar in a way, in that they both at the start, don't know anything about music, or how to play an instrument.

COMMENTS FOR REVOLUTIONARY GIRL UTENA: THE ADOLESCENCE OF UTENA
They are both Queer stories. Unlike "Given", this one doesn't have much of a story, is mostly symbolism and character interaction. What makes Utena more interesting to watch is that this one has actual themes going on, the animation and illustration are great, the music is phenomenal and the Aesthetics is really unique.
Is mostly spectacle, but for what it is, has charm and doesn't feel like a waste of time.
COMMENTS FOR ANTIDOTE
Two people definitely not coming from the same world, it is impossible for them to understand each other... Some characters have heavy and tragic past, and will have to overcome it in order to start a new life. Given is a realistic and light BL, whereas Jie Yao has BL background but it is really not demonstrative (being Chinese).
Also both have really good OST, Jie Yao sounds a little Jazzy and Given revolves around music. This is what I liked most in these anime.

COMMENTS FOR LOVE STAGE!!
Love stage was amazing in the way it broke some of the yaoi anime stereotypes and from a genre which at the time was either very stale or very problematic in its portrayal of MLM romance this show was a breath of fresh air which paved the way for yaoi to be more than just pandering fetish anime. and that's why i'm recommending Given as a follow up watch. whatever problematic elements Love Stage!! still had from its predecessors are scrubbed clean in this show. So if you are looking for a real honest look at self discovery that doesn't wishwash on the characters sexuality, or past relationships, or where "seme" and "uke" mean nothing, where the relationship feels deep and genuine to real life MLM experience then i can not recommend Given enough.
