COMMENTS FOR THE HEROIC LEGEND OF ARSLAN
Seems to be a very similar premise, where a charismatic, but weak individual gathers up other, stronger or more knowledgeable people to help accomplish their vision and goals that may go against the grain of the current prevailing forces. There are also similarities in that the main character's allies are potentially somewhat manipulative.

COMMENTS FOR LORD MARKSMAN AND VANADIS
War anime involving lots of battles taking place in a variety of locations. They also both tie in strategy plans while the battle occurs, rather than explaining things afterward

COMMENTS FOR UTAWARERUMONO
Do you like stories of noble, romantic conquest? Epic-style armies resting their lives down because of good guy heroes proclaiming his will for the people? Some light political intrigue as a buffer for the plight that is to come? Both of these titles should be serviceable in the above mentioned.
Utawarerumono, being based on a visual novel, has an undercurrent of harem elements to it; cute girls aplenty with most of the downtime about cute antics.
Record of Grancrest War, in true spirit to its table-top origins, leans heavy on stock cliche characters playing out their roles energetically, but cliche nonetheless; an easy recommendation for the genre buffs out there.

COMMENTS FOR MAOYU ~ ARCHENEMY & HERO
You see in both:
- female main character closes a contract with male main character
- romance set in a non-modern era
- female main character takes care of the strategy towards their goal of creating a better world
- magic
- war
- very similar feel
I was surprised not to see this in the top recommendations here. I automatically thought of Grancest Senki while watching Maoyuu, they have a very very similar feel.

COMMENTS FOR AKAME GA KILL!
Although their premises and plot progression are completely different, they're both stories set in a medieval fantasy setting filled with armies battling each other, lots of violence and death, super powers or magic, romance between two enemies and political overtones. So if you liked one you would probably like the other.
With that said, I have to make clear that Grancrest Senki is more focused on politics so it might get a little harder to get into. If you happened to watch and like both of these series, I suggest you watch Windaria.

COMMENTS FOR XUAN YUAN SWORD LUMINARY
Both were set in a certain time period where warring factions fight for supremacy, except one was set in some quasi european setting while the other is more on the oriental east, one was more of supernatural and fantasy while the other has an odd kind of sci-fi in it.

COMMENTS FOR LEGEND OF THE GALACTIC HEROES: DIE NEUE THESE

COMMENTS FOR FATE/STAY NIGHT [UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS]
Grancrest is similar to many of the main Fate series/movies.
(Note - If your new to the Fate franchise, I advise watching by order of release. Many will disagree, but I think it's the best way. Starting with Fate Stay Night - Studio Dean.
Similarity's include:
- Both have to form pacts/contacts in pairs to fight - GRANCREST has Lord's and Mages and FATE has Master's and Legendary Hero.
- Both fight to obtain the Holy Grail (albeit for different reasons)
- Both have a dark/light or good/evil vibe.
- Both are heavily battle oriented, with great fight scenes.
- Both have romantic elements (though not initially the main focus point)
- Both are in the genres of action, fantasy, magic, supernatural, romance.
All in all they have a lot of similar features. There are lots of differences too but I enjoyed both shows and scored them the same.
Also similar to -
Fate Stay Night - Studio Dean
Fate Zero - Ufotable
Fate Unlimited Blade Works 2nd season - Ufotable
Fate Apocrypha - A-1 Pictures
Note - Check the watch order for Fate.
I started with Studio Deans - Fate Stay Night and then more or less watched in release order.

COMMENTS FOR OUR LAST CRUSADE OR THE RISE OF A NEW WORLD
While Grancrest is not about forbidden love there is large percentage of the show dedicated to romance. It's also a romance with lots of fighting with main male character and main female character taking part in the fighting. Also, the main character's feel similar in some aspects to main character's in Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen. Trust me if you liked Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen, there's a good chance you will like Grancrest.

COMMENTS FOR YONA OF THE DAWN
Both have political issues to resolve with plenty of action and a dash of romance if you enjoy one the other is sure to please.
COMMENTS FOR OVERLORD
Grancrest Senki is based on a tabletop RPG, much like how Overlord was influenced by Dungeons and Dragons. As such, Grancrest does not hesitate to flex its worldbuilding muscles; every character oozes, well, character and every introduced faction (representing different countries in the anime) has a distinct and vibrant culture. Though it lacks the comedy that Overlord is known for, Grancrest Senki is a must watch for any worldbuilding lover.

COMMENTS FOR IS IT WRONG TO TRY TO PICK UP GIRLS IN A DUNGEON?
Both have the same plot where it involves a mage and adventurer relationship, except one has a bit of a serious side while the other has a comedy side.

COMMENTS FOR THE TWELVE KINGDOMS
Do you enjoy fantastical rules that affect the setting as much as the cast? Armies and political intrigue as common spices to your fantasy adventures? What about observing the plight for an unassuming ruler to rise and do their part for their people? Both anime in question provide these surreptitious, zesty epics with relish.
Twelve Kingdoms, arguably a masterpiece in its own right, offers more diversity in its setting and stories, encompassing multiple exposures and journeys.
Record of Grancrest War, being based on a table-top RPG, feels more indebted to classic fantasy/epic thus concentrates on that core conceit, Suikoden-style (rise-to-power fanservice)

COMMENTS FOR ALTAIR: A RECORD OF BATTLES
Shoukoku no Altair and Grancrest Senki are anime with idealistic protagonists and supportive comrades fighting to establish peace. Grancrest Senki is a fantasy anime that holds a lot of promise. Its biggest asset is the pitched battles that make up the anime, but its biggest flaw is the plot development for those battles. Shoukoku no Altair uses its historical setting to create a stronger plot development. Both anime try to satisfy your craving for watching fighting armies and court dramas. Watch Shoukoku no Altair for less ridiculousness. Watch Grancrest Senki for heroic battles.

COMMENTS FOR GRIMGAR: ASHES AND ILLUSIONS
Far better character drama, easier to track the plot. No one is an overpowered demigod, nor does anyone really become a badass without earning it.

COMMENTS FOR CHAIN CHRONICLE: THE LIGHT OF HAECCEITAS
Both are set in a medieval fantasy world that is plagued by some sort of malevolent force that brings about war on a grand scale. In addition, both male lead characters have the ability to gain magic power from others.
COMMENTS FOR KINGDOM
Kingdom and Grancrest Senki are so focused on army battles that almost every episode features armies fighting. Grancrest Senki prefers quick resolutions. Almost every battle ends in one or two episodes. Quick battles are needed because the overarching narrative uses battles to move the plot forward. Kingdom prefers to build-up the tension through longer engagements. Longer battles are used to develop characters through overcoming hardships.

COMMENTS FOR THE LEGEND OF THE LEGENDARY HEROES
For someone who likes fantasy adventures that involve magic and warring kingdoms both anime are a good choice. For people that aren't to fond of this genre, they may still grow on you, because of some characters, the mature themes or the story twists.
But be warned they are also simular in their bad points like pasting and to many characters.
