COMMENTS FOR NATSUME'S BOOK OF FRIENDS
Very similar premise about a person dealing with various Youkai. Natsume's Book of Friends is definitely the better of the two, very calming and relaxing, comical, and also eerie/tense at the same time. Still, if you are looking for more Youkai interactions and interesting characters/designs, both of these are good picks.
COMMENTS FOR XXXHOLIC
Same type of story, a boy that want to someone help him with a yokai and finished with a due, and help his heroe
Without a house like xxxholic, fukigen have a room that move out to call it, but only a person can make other see that
COMMENTS FOR NORAGAMI
In my opinion these two are sort of under rated/unknown series (especially FnM) compared to the mainstream ones and end up not getting enough attention, even tho they both deserve more!
They are different from eachother but yet have some strong common points:
- supernatural genre is a very important theme to both, although Noragami tends to have more action while FnM gets to be more dramatic
- creatures like gods, ayakashi, youkai, spirits and whatsover are daily routine for both stories (Noragami is specially mainly setted on gods)
- both main characters have to deal with exorcisms, particoularly FnM, but while the usual term "exorcism" is treated like our classic understanding of it in Noragami (as in: exorcise a bad spirit); in FnM instead the exorcism is nothing of the sort, it's actually a good thing for a spirit being exorcised as it can get him "home", therefor we get to see the point of view of spirits, ayakashi and such which is not that common for series that involve exorcisms. We can say that in FnM the word exorcism shows us a whole brand new idea for it.
- both stories evolve around a job (granting wishes in Noragami and requests of exorcism in FnM), a -supernatural- job, of course.
- like in many series with the supernatural genre, both are about a special world that coexist with ours but that not everyone has the ability to see it or its extraordinary creatures
- they are both a breath of fresh air
So my two cents are: if you liked one of these you might easily enjoy the other too!

COMMENTS FOR MIDNIGHT OCCULT CIVIL SERVANTS
Both are about the supernatural beings.
Fukigen has a more lighthearted undertone as compared to Mayonaka.
Both will introduce you to the supernatural creatures as casually as their context allow.
And from what I can tell, both have great potential to develop further, but are just not getting enough exposure.
Both animes are currently only showing the very beginning of their stories, though you can expect the story to develop well if given the chance, they do wrap up the anime without a cliffhanger so you don't feel a sense of great loss if a continuation is not in planning.
The concept for both animes are interesting and amusing, so do give the other a shot and check it out.
COMMENTS FOR MONONOKE
Shows about yokai/mononoke/spirits.
Mononoke is more serious and more experimental in art and execution with a drier sense of humour; whereas Fukigen na Mononokean is a simpler series set in high school with a more standard/accessible sense of humour.
Mononoke is more or less entirely 'episodic' (comprising of 3 almost completely unrelated arcs), focusing more on the yokai's story, leaving the MC shrouded in mystery; whereas Fukigen na Mononokean definitely has a clear overarching connection between each yokai encounter in the form of the main character's story.
Not quite the standard recommendation considering the stylistic gap ( though the colours in the Underworld of Mononokean does resemble the Mononoke palette), but if you're looking for more yokai stories after Mononoke, or you want to expand your anime horizons after watching Mononokean, give this a go.

COMMENTS FOR KAKURIYO: BED & BREAKFAST FOR SPIRITS
They both have an MC that gets sucked into the dealing with ayakashi/youkai because of a debt. Both MCs work hard at their new job while slowly getting to know the ayakashi/youkai and become friends.

COMMENTS FOR ELEGANT YOKAI APARTMENT LIFE
A reluctant protagonist dropped into the world of youkai, exorcists, and the supernatural and ends up deeply appreciating the situation...growing from it. High school setting. Interesting characters and overall design. Excellent background detail.
COMMENTS FOR RIN-NE
Both series share similar comedy.
Both are revolved around school and youkai.
Both involve a separate dimension for the youkai to live in.
COMMENTS FOR MUSHI-SHI
These two anime series both involve supernatural beings, which also could be referred as youkai or in the other case as mushishi. Both these series have a very unique atmosphere and pacing and are definitely a great watch.

Similar plot line with spirits, exorcisms, yokai, etc. Also similar with BL subtext (or more with Ling Qi), as well as master/servant dynamic.

COMMENTS FOR ONE PUNCH MAN
Similar supernatural themes, as well as (arguable) BL subtext and master/subordinate dynamic.
COMMENTS FOR TACTICS
Master/servant dynamics, cinnamon roll characters, dealing with spirits (often helping them), BL subtext, priests, shinto themes, yokai, and an all around similar atmosphere.
COMMENTS FOR HELL GIRL
Both story-telling are episodic at the start (But for Jigoku, it took about 1.5 season of such episodic story telling before the overarching story starts to build up)
Both shows you a glimpse of the other world (Fukigen definitely portrays it much more colourful and fun)
Both MC helps their client from their problems that essentially meant involving the other world (Both MC are like agents of this other world)
Both MC have an underlying dark past that reveals slowly throughout the show
Despite these similarities, I recommend one to the other mainly for their portrayal of the other world. I find both portrayal interesting.
Jigoku is a way darker show than Fukigen as it touches a lot on humanity and its morals; psychological genre is its core genre
Fukigen is more lighthearted and cheerful though the underlying darkness is there, it is still mild as compared to Jigoku

COMMENTS FOR ORENCHI NO FURO JIJOU
If you enjoy silly comedies that focus more on entertaining you and less on keeping a consistent plot, then both these anime fit said criteria well. Both shows focus the interactions of a human with non-human entities, and how, eventually, he befriends them and realizes the existence of a world he was entirely unaware of.
The bromances between both the MCs are cute too!
COMMENTS FOR NYAN KOI!
Both feature light hearted comedy.
Both present characters in a form of debt.
Both are given a unique ability to see/hear things others cant.
Just swap cats to yokai, and harem for friendship.

COMMENTS FOR BEYOND THE BOUNDARY
- High School setting
- Mononoke/yokai/spirits
- Teenage cast
- Colourful
- Playful dialogue
Kyoukai no Kanata is more about the story about the people surrounded by youkai which needs exorcising, whereas Mononokean is more about the youkai's story and the people who deal with them.

COMMENTS FOR HOZUKI'S COOLHEADEDNESS
- Depictions of the Underworld/Hell in a very 'normal' way.
- Mononoke/bakemono/yokai/spirits/oni/etc. etc.
- MC with resting bitch faces.
Hoozuki is a pun-heavy gag comedy set more-or-less completely in hell, whereas Mononokean is a light hearted SoL fantasy set between the human world and the underworld. Both shows feature a large cast of interesting and colourful mythological creatures though.

COMMENTS FOR HOW TO KEEP A MUMMY
The personalities of Abeno and Ashiya remind me of Tazuki and Sora. Both series also have a cute mascot (Moja & Mii-kun) while featuring other creatures on an episodic basis. Both series are recommended if you're looking for a slow-paced, cute, relaxing series.
