COMMENTS FOR GANTZ
I’ve seen the live-action Gantz movies, the CGI Gantz-O movie (is that what it’s called?) but it turns out there’s actually a full anime series for this!
Kei Kurono’s abruptly murdered one day, but nevertheless, he still wakes up to find himself being given instructions by a mysterious black ball, to kill monsters and clean up the dark parts of this world. He’ll have his skills tested to perhaps beyond the limit, and it’s survive and kill – or die.
I thought the live-action Gantz movies were screwed up, but apparently the anime is even worse. There was a ton of gore in the live-action, and in the CGI movie there was this one specific scene that left me going “WHAT.” so it’s weird see that the Gantz anime series is even more bonkers.
Now, is the Gantz series good? Well, sort of. I love the concept of the freshly deceased being freshly reborn and sent to kill monsters from beyond this world, but, going off my knowledge of the movies, the characters were… awful. They were all pretty much one-dimensional, except for the best friend of Kei (who, if I remember, in the live-actions, was played by the same person who played L in the non-Netflix live-action Death Note movies).

COMMENTS FOR BERSERK (2016)
Berserk is one of those anime that have been going a long while. Not like One Piece or Naruto, though. I mean it’s gotten a ton of adaptations throughout the years and stuff, and I’m looking at the 2016 one.
The main character, Guts, has been branded for death and is destined to be hunted down by demons to the end of time. But he’s not going to sit there and take it. Instead, he takes up a sword and decides to say “screw you” to fate, slaughtering demons in the process. Blood and gore awaits him on his great journey to tell fate that it’s not the boss of him.

COMMENTS FOR CORPSE PARTY: TORTURED SOULS
From what I know, Corpse Party started off as a horror video game, and got adapted to anime. Corpse Party was a going-away ritual gone wrong; a group of high school friends want to commemorate one of their friends moving away, and they try to perform a ritual with a paper doll named Sachiko to keep them friends forever.
Unfortunately, the doll has ties to the Heavenly Host Academy – the school that was before their high school was built; an elementary school that was bulldozed after several children had their tongues cut out. Now, the students have been transported to an alternate reality where the Heavenly Host Academy is still there; the ghosts of the past, however, want fresh blood.

COMMENTS FOR TOKYO GHOUL
So, here’s one of the anime that I’ve actually watched/manga I’ve read. The world is plagued by ghouls – creatures that look like humans, until it’s too late. Then, they feed on human flesh and use kagune; which are ghoul-exclusive organs used to kill their prey.
Ken Kaneki thinks he’s about to go on a date with the beautiful Rize, but, unfortunately for him, it turns out she’s a ghoul and tries to eat him. However, a freak accident is what saves him and kills her. In the hospital, he gets an organ transplant that, as it turns out, was from Rize. Now, Kaneki is the world’s first half-ghoul half-human hybrid, and he’ll have to survive deadly turf wars, and the government trying to kill all ghouls.

COMMENTS FOR DEVILMAN: CRYBABY
Devilman Crybaby was an anime that released at some time in 2018. The truth is that devils cannot walk the earth, not without a living host, anyway. If the host is mentally strong enough, though, they can overcome the demon, and therefore can become a Devilman.
Akira Fudou has always been a kind man, so when his friend Ryou Asaka asked for help trying to find devils; he couldn’t help but say yes. They go to a place called the Sabbath; a party full of death and tragedy. Devils possess the partygoers, turning them into awful monsters.
In an attempt to save his best friend, though, Akira merges with a devil Amon, and becomes a Devilman. Now, he has the power to defeat all the remaining demons. Who was he really, now?

COMMENTS FOR AKIRA
Like Perfect Blue, Akira is an anime movie from the 80s, but it counts. In 1988, a boy suddenly gains psychic powers through an explosion in the city, and it leads to World War III. However, he gets captured and taken in, never to be seen again, but the city is rebuilt, and by 2019 it’s known as Neo-Tokyo. (Yeah, this didn’t really age well…)
The main character, Shoutarou Kaneda is part of a motorcycle gang that’s known for causing chaos in the city. However, his best friend Tetsuo Shima seems to be abruptly developing powers of his own, as the government tries to quarantine him so as to not unleash a World War IV.

COMMENTS FOR DEATH NOTE
I’ve actually read the Death Note series and know the anime by heart, so I can talk a lot about this.
Genius student Light Yagami suddenly stumbles across a strange book with ‘DEATH NOTE’ written on it. When he opens it up, he learns that anyone whose name is written in this notebook shall die. He’s visited by a shinigami, or God of Death, named Ryuk, who’s supposed to stay with him for as long as he has the Death Note.
Light, of course, does the totally rational thing and decides to kill all criminals in this world and become god of the new world. The anime focuses upon outsmarting the police, and all the ways to kill criminals throughout the anime. If I have to recommend one thing, though, don’t watch the anime’s second half. It goes really downhill.

COMMENTS FOR ELFEN LIED
I’m sure everyone knows about Elfen Lied, but in case you don’t, here’s what this series is about.
The main character, Lucy, is not human. She’s part of a species called Diclonius, who look human but are far stronger. They’re born with horns on their heads and invisible telekinetic hands that can slice up anything within range. Lucy is a victim of a scientific experiment, but one day, she escapes.
However, due to a head injury, she develops a split personality. One personality, her “normal” personality, of sorts. The other one, a young child with a lack of speech capabilities. She’s found by two college students, Kouta and Yuka, who take her in, and soon enough, they’re lost in the world of government conspiracy, and the rotten parts of human society.

COMMENTS FOR ANOTHER
1972, in Yomiyama North Middle School, one of the students (a girl named Misaki) abruptly dies, and since then, nothing has ever been the same for the town. 26 years later, Kouichi Sakakibara transfers into the school and meets a girl named Mei Misaki, who wears an eyepatch.
Strangely enough, though, everyone acts like Mei doesn’t exist; students and teachers alike. Despite warnings from everyone, including Mei herself, Kouichi decides to get closer to her and, by doing so, will learn the strange mystery of Misaki’s death.
I hope you all enjoyed this article! What did you think about all of these anime I’ve listed here? Did you see any? I’m actually super curious about Perfect Blue now, and I may try and watch it at some point. In the meantime, I’m Sara Ann, and I’ll see you in the next article!

Perfect Blue’s actually a movie, but y’know what? It counts.
The J-pop idol group “CHAM!” have been a big hit for two years now. Unfortunately, though, one of their members Mima Kirigoe moves on and leaves the group to pursue her own acting career. However, Mima wanted to shed her J-pop idol self and instead takes on a crime drama series.
The role gets more and more exhausting, though, and to make things even worse for Mima, she’s got a stalker. Her stalker can’t accept the fact she’s no longer an innocent little girl singer, and starts to create a website impersonating her life with intricate detail. CHAM! seems to be doing even better without Mima, too.
Eventually, Mima’s sanity grows worse and worse, and at this point, it’ll only take a little bit for her to snap.
This one looks like a wonderfully dark anime movie, and I really want to watch it now! From what I’ve heard, though, there’s lots of graphic violence, blood, and nudity, so watch out.
