[Top 10] Best Vampire Anime – Must Watch!
So, it’s no surprise that vampires are insanely popular, and have been for a long time. There’s a reason why the Castlevania series is so well-received, and why it’s beautiful dhampir Alucard is a fan-favorite character for most people. But what if I told you that there’s an entire genre of anime centering around vampires, whether it’s comedy or horror or anything else?
Today, we’re going to be looking at 10 vampire-themed anime that I think you should check out! Please note that the Castlevania Netflix series, though it does embody an anime artstyle and is very much about vampires, does not count as an anime, due it being a Western production. We can technically count it as an honorable mention, though, because I’m personally a big fan of the Castlevania games and I really want to watch the series.

COMMENTS FOR ROSARIO + VAMPIRE
Rosario to Vampire is a comedic, almost slice-of-life anime that has a supernatural twist to it. It mainly takes place in a school called the Youkai Academy. (If you know a little bit of Japanese culture, you’ll know a yokai is a troublemaking Japanese spirit.)
Now, despite its name, Youkai Academy is a seemingly average boarding school. There are two things that set it apart from most schools, though: the school’s pupils are monsters learning how to co-exist and interact with humans. The other thing is that, if a regular human is found on school grounds, they’re to be killed!
Tsukune Aono is a completely average human teenager. However, he’s unable to get into any high school because his grades are so spectacularly awful. In their final attempt to make sure he gets a good education, his parents enroll him into Youkai Academy, completely unaware of who the academy is geared towards.
Tsukune stays in the academy mainly because he’s met the most beautiful girl in the school, a young woman named Moka Akashiya. Though he decides to pursue this growing relationship with Moka (and she seems to reciprocate the feelings, too), he doesn’t seem to realize one tiny but extremely important detail.
Moka Akashiya is a vampire.

COMMENTS FOR SHIKI
Megumi Shimizu was supposed to be just your regular girl with a big dream to live in the city.
Key word: supposed.
The fifteen year old’s sudden and shocking death in the small town of Sotoba ends up shaking things up to say the least. Unfortunately for Sotoba citizens, Megumi becomes just one of countless victims in an epidemic that leaves the summer bloody and terrifying.
The young doctor Toshio Ozaki begins to doubt the nature of this disease that’s killing people. As he digs deeper and deeper to try and get to the bottom of this, he realizes that, in order to uncover the whole truth, he’s going to have to give up a part of himself.
Then there’s Natsuno Yuuki, a young man who’s shut himself out from the rest of the town. He’s traumatized by his best friend Megumi’s sudden death, and he realizes there’s something fishy about it all. He and Toshio end up making an unlikely pair, to try and save Sotoba before it transforms into a village of vampires – or, Shiki, as they call themselves.
If I haven’t mentioned it yet, Shiki’s a horror anime that tries to explain the border between man and monster, it’s apparently really good, but I haven’t watched it yet. I need to do so soon, though.

COMMENTS FOR BAKEMONOGATARI
Koyomo Araragi survives a vampire attack that should be deadly, but with the help of a strange man named Meme Oshino (yeah, that’s his actual name), he’s been brought back from the brink of vampirism. Unfortunately for him, though, he still possesses some of the supernatural abilities that vampires have, such as the amazing healing abilities and vision.
Even though he’s basically part-vampire, Koyomo tries to live his life as an average student with the help of the class president – and best friend – Tsubasa Hanekawa. Despite this vow to be normal, Koyomo eventually gets looped into all sorts of crazy antics, helping those who also suffer from supernatural diseases like he does.
Bakemonogatari can technically be considered a vampire anime even though there’s more than just vampire stuff in here, since one of the main characters is, at the very least, a half-vampire. This one seems like something I can see myself watching late at night, munching on Pocky and binging the anime when I should be sleeping.

COMMENTS FOR HELLSING
Yeah, you know a vampire anime list isn’t complete without Hellsing. Hellsing is an organization that specializes in dealing with all the supernatural ghosts and ghouls of life – that includes vampires. This time, they’re called in to a village called Cheddar to eliminate a vampire that’s turning all the villagers into ghouls.
Their most useful member gets called into the scene: a vampire named Alucard. (That’s right; the name Alucard is particularly popular when it comes to vampire anime. Who knew.) Though he only has a handgun at the very most on him, Alucard can easily destroy all the monsters causing their chaos in Cheddar.
Due to terrible circumstances, though, a young police officer named Seras Victoria ends up getting caught in the crossfire, and as a result she’s mortally wounded. Alucard decides to try and save her by giving her two choices: stay human and die from her injuries, or live in eternity as a vampire.
Naturally, Seras decides to be a vampire.
As she becomes a vampire, Seras also starts a new life as a member of Hellsing. She still struggles with her new vampire form and the fact that she’s no longer a human, but if she wants to succeed at this new job, Seras’s gotta embrace the vampire in her.
For some weird reason, this anime in particular reminds me of the Hellboy series. It’s not just the name, though.

COMMENTS FOR BLOOD-C
Now, I know I’ve rambled about Blood-C at some point before, but I really need to ramble on again. I saw the movie Blood: The Last Vampire (live action) and let me just say I personally loved it, even if most people didn’t. But this entry isn’t about that; instead this anime.
Saya Kirasagi is an average schoolgirl by day. At night, though, she becomes a fearsome demon slayer. She’s equipped with a sword that was given to her by her father for only the most sacred of tasks, and kills every monster that may threaten her peaceful life in the village.
However, her reality starts to crumble around her as the monsters speak of a broken covenant she knows nothing about.
Saya can’t remember a thing about why she’s here, why she’s fighting for this village, or what her purpose is. Nothing is as it seems in her world anymore, and the anime focuses on Saya’s journey to try and understand just what exactly she’s up against. I talked about this more about the Top 10 Gore Anime, so if you wanna know more about this anime, feel free to take a look at that article.

COMMENTS FOR TRINITY BLOOD
In Trinity Blood, everything takes place in the distant future, after untold destruction, brought on by something called the Armageddon. There’s a terrible war, between vampires and humans, and it still rages on to this day, and to protect the humans, the Vatican has to rely on their other allies to help them.
The protagonist is named Abel Nightroad, and he’s a travelling priest led by the Vatican. There’s a twist, though: he’s a vampire that drinks the blood of other vampires. He’s also a member of the Ax, which is a mysterious operations group led by Cardinal Catherina Sforza.
Abel’s twin, Cain (yeah, I see where the writers were going with their naming), however, is the leader of the order of Rozencreuz. He wants to continue the war so that he may rule the world with the vampires. It’s up to Abel and the Ax to stop him, because there is no one else who’s up to the task.

COMMENTS FOR SIRIUS THE JAEGER
While Trinity Blood may be taking place in the distant future, the anime Sirius instead goes to the past. It’s the year 1930 in this anime, and vampires have invaded the streets of Tokyo.
As the murders continue to happen, the authorities of the city decide to hire the Jaegers. The Jaegers are a strange group who’s tasked to hunt down vampires all over the world. They carry musical instrument cases, in order to disguise their identity (yeah, I still don’t know how this works), and battle the vampires with as much ferocity as the creatures of the night themselves.
Their most skilled warrior, Yuliy, was the only survivor of a horrific vampire attack on his village. However, he also happens to be a werewolf, too. Using this strength that being a werewolf grants him, he works with the Jaegers and the authorities to rid the world of vampires, and though they have the pretense of working for the cops, the Jaegers are actually fighting the vampires over the Ark of Sirius.

COMMENTS FOR BLOODIVORES
60 years ago, the population went mad as a bout of insomnia struck everyone and forced them to stay awake for a whole week. There was a cure for it, but the downside was that everyone who took it ended up becoming a vampire. Humanity fought this new species, and they won, mind you, but some vampires managed to survive.
However, the main character Mi Liu is known as the “Child of Hope,” as he was born from both a Human and a Vampire. He could be the link that connects the two species and unites them once and for all, but for now, he’s being attacked by strange monsters. The prison he’s in actually corresponds with the birthplace of vampires, known as the Blue Town.
Why were vampires being trapped in the Blue Town? And frankly, what are these monsters that’re attacking them, anyway?

COMMENTS FOR VAMPIRE HUNTER D
Fun fact: this anime was actually based off a game called Night Warriors: Darkstalker’s Revenge!
The world is places that we think are populated by humans, but in actuality, it’s the Darkstalkers that rule this world. There’s always a battle between the Darkstalkers to see who’s the most powerful of them all. Zombies, vampires, werewolves and more; all of whom compete with one another to test their sheer might.
And of course, all of this is worthless once Aztec robots start to invade after deciding humanity is not worth saving. Now, the Darkstalkers must band together if they want to save the world they live in from its imminent destruction!
That concludes my article on the Top 10 Vampire Anime! Which of these anime have you watched, and which do you like? Let me know in the comments down below, but in the meantime, I’m Sara Ann, and I’ll see you in the next article!

We’re going to start off with Vampire Knight, which has a variety of young-looking anime boy vampires, as you may expect.
The earliest memory that our main character, Yuki, possesses is being attacked by a wild vampire during a cold winter night. But there’s a good ending to this memory, though, as Yuki is subsequently rescued by a Pureblooded vampire, named Kaname Kuran. Ten years later, though, Yuki Cross has been adopted by Kaien Cross.
Yuki’s grown up, now, and has become a guardian of the vampire race, seeking to protect childhood friend Kaname as he leads a group of vampires in a boarding school named Cross Academy – you’ve probably guessed that it’s led by her adoptive parent, Kaien. Her other friend from childhood Zero Kiryuu, however, has a burning hatred for vampires as they’ve destroyed everything that he held dear to him.
There are love triangles and mystery afoot, as Yuki tries to navigate a world of vampires and co-exist with her childhood crush Kaname and her best friend who wants to destroy all vampires. Can the two species ever live in harmony at some point in time?
